A VIEW FROM RUSSIA: USA needs nuclear explosion to turn the world into dictatorship

USA needs nuclear explosion to turn the world into dictatorship?
Is the United States going to put dictatorship into effect under the guise of the anti-terrorist struggle? What may trigger another major transformation in 2009? The answer is obvious: another 9/11 in the USA.
Terrible and bloody events are in store for the world in the beginning of 2009. Most likely, the world will witness a reality show with a nuclear blast, which will be used as a reason for the US administration to change the world order again and leave the new Great Depression behind. There is every reason to believe that the Russian Federation may suffer as a result of this possible initiative too.

Russian air defence systems for Iran

Vladimir Radyuhin

MOSCOW: Russia has begun deliveries of its most potent air defence systems to Iran, a Russian news agency reported.

Russia is currently fulfilling a contract to deliver S-300 air defence systems to Iran, RIA news agency reported quoting confidential sources in the Russian Defence Ministry.

The move has rattled Israel, which has immediately dispatched a senior Defence Ministry official to Russia to thwart the sale.

Moscow earlier met its obligations on supplying Tor-M1 systems to Iran and is currently implementing a contract to deliver S-300 systems, RIA said. Russia supplied 29 Tor-M1 short-range air-defence complexes to Iran a year ago under a $1.4-billion contract.

Russian nuclear-powered missile cruiser Admiral Kuznetsov

DEBKAfile Special Report: DEBKAfile's military sources report that, four months after the Georgian war, Moscow is again testing the limits of its Mediterranean reach. Navy spokesman Igor Dygalo announced that two flotillas from the Barents Sea and the Black Sea are heading for the Mediterranean:

One, based in the Barents sea near Finland, is led by the Admiral Kuznetsov carrier accompanied by two guided missile destroyers, the Admiral Chabanenko and Admiral Levchenko, with two supply ships in tow, one a tanker.

The second is the guided nuclear-powered missile cruiser Peter the Great, one of the biggest warships afloat, with three accompanying ships. They come from a joint Caribbean exercise with Venezuela.

According to the Russian Navy spokesman, the two groups will merge upon entering the Mediterranean and spend several months calling in at various ports.

Crisis will help us regain power - Russia's Communists

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russia's Communists expect the global financial crisis will cause social unrest and help them challenge for power, the party's leader said on Saturday.

Gennady Zyuganov told the party's annual congress the Communists should make maximum use of the growing public discontent caused by the economic downturn to try to restore their political strength.

"The wind of history is blowing in our sails again ... At this time of crisis the world of imperialism is starting to die. We are standing on the threshold of political and social shifts," Zyuganov said in a 2-hour speech opening the congress.

But when Medvedev reaches the region next week, he will find it drastically altered by events - and in some cases, less receptive to his overtures...
